Contract knitwear, with your brand

Anyone looking for a knitwear workshop is not just looking for a machine: they want someone who starts from the right yarn and answers for the finished garment. We direct this work in the Prato textile district, with a single contact from the first idea to delivery.

Ready-made or built from scratchThe yarn decides most of itOne point of contact

Every brand comes with different needs: some want a knitwear capsule fast, others want a knit garment built around their idea.

That's why we work along two routes.

Two routes

The two routes

01 — READY-MADE

Ready-made knit garments, with your brand

We start from base knit garments already produced and turn them into your product with embroidery, labels, tags and packaging. The garment already exists, so development is light.

The right route to launch a line or test the market.
02 — BUILT FROM SCRATCH

A knit garment that's yours alone

The garment starts from your sketch or a technical sheet: the yarn is chosen, the pattern is built, the prototype is made. It's the Made in Italy route, with yarns worked in the Prato district.

More time and more work, but a knit garment no one else has.
The path

Step by step

Each step closes with your approval before the next.

01

We start from the retail price

Before we talk costs, we ask what price you'll sell the garment at and how much you want to make on it. From there we work out what production can cost and which of the two routes makes sense.

02

Sheet and yarn

Your sketch, or the reference garment, becomes a working sheet. With the sheet we choose the yarn: it's the decision that weighs most, because availability, minimums and the garment's yield change from yarn to yarn.

03

The prototype

The first knit garment is made, tried on and corrected. Usually several prototypes are made before the style is right. Development is always quoted separately, apart from the per-piece price.

04

The sample

The approved garment becomes the reference sample in size S, the copy the whole production is checked against. The sample is paid for separately and in advance, because it is real work. Only once it is approved do we move to the run.

05

Grading and production

The style is developed across all the sizes in its grade — each size has its own proportions, it is not a scale-up. Then production, with finishing, brand label, composition and care labels, tags and bagging.

06

Real numbers, not promises

Minimums, costs and lead times are given by our specialists after they have seen the project and spoken to the workshops. A number given without that work is a number that changes. Ours doesn't.

To get started

What we need to get started

  • A sheet, drawings or reference photos, and a knit garment you like for its fit, if you have one
  • Which route you're interested in: ready-made or built from scratch
  • The yarn you have in mind: wool, cotton, viscose, silk
  • How many styles and how many pieces per style
  • Sizes and the size breakdown
  • Personalisation: embroidery, labels, tags
  • Your retail price and how much you want to make on it
  • When you need the garments: a date, not a season
  • Company name, address and VAT number
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which yarns can you work with?
Wool, cotton, viscose and silk are among the yarns worked in the Prato district. Availability, minimums and lead times are checked at quotation stage, because they change from yarn to yarn. If you already have your own yarn supplier, we can work with yours.
What is the minimum quantity for knitwear?
There is no standard minimum. The MOQ depends on the garment, on the work involved and above all on the yarn, because yarn is itself bought with minimums. It is set in the quotation, before you spend anything.
Do you start from a sketch or an existing garment?
Either. A sketch with a sheet, or a sample garment to copy or adapt. In both cases the first step is the quotation, then the prototype and the sample.
Who actually carries out production?
An affiliated textile company in the Prato district and, where the process requires it, specialist workshops in the chain. LUX LAB is not a factory: it directs the work, checks the result and remains your single contact.
Are labels with my brand included?
They are part of the quotation: your brand label, the composition and care labels required by law, swing tags and finishing.
